What is in a name
I’ve had a mail through asking me what my name is, and although as my good friend Shakespeare said “a rose by any other name would smell as sweet” I realise that just refering to myself as “The Important Man” is creating a rift between myself and my readers raising me up above them, a godhead as it were. Although that is of course factually accurate, I’ve been reliably informed that nobody likes being reminded of their own shortcomings (as I don’t have any, I personally wouldn’t know)
So as important as I am, I have decided that I really should throw you a bone here, so from now on you may actually call me by my first name, which is Ernest. There, now don’t you feel special (and of course by special, I do of course mean educationally)
The name Ernest is derived from the Germanic word ernst, approximately meaning honest and trustworthy so as you can see, it fits me perfectly.
A few other important Ernest’s include:
- TheĀ author Ernest Hemmingway
- Prince Ernest Augustus, 3rd Duke of Cumberland and Teviotdale
